Crustacea / Mineral Management Service / California Phase II Monitoring Program (CAMP)
Section Responsible for Processing (Top)
- MBPC
Significance (Top)
- This project is more commonly referred to by the acrynom MMS-CAMP (MMS Contract No. 14-12-0001-30262). This program is designed to monitor potential environmental changes at a series of regional stations and at two arrays of site-specific stations near oil production platforms in the Western Santa Barbara Channel and Santa Maria Basin region of the California OCS. Platform Hidalgo (Lease P-0450) off Point Arguello was selected for hard-bottom, site-specific monitoring and Platform Julius (Lease P-0409) off Point Sal was selected for soft-bottom, site-specific monitoring. Specific objectives of the program are 1) to detect and measure potential long-term (or short-term) changes in the marine environment adjancent to oil and gas platforms and 2) to determine whether changes observed in the marine environment during the monitoring period are caused by drilling-related activities or are a product of natural processes.
Background (Top)
- No information available.
Collection Location and Dates (Top)
- This material was collected off California, Western Santa Barbara Channel and Santa Maria Basin between 1986 and 1988 from 90 - 565 m. Latitude and longitude data are available for each station. See attached map.
Taxonomic Contents (Top)
- These are mostly curated Crustacea. This section will be updated as material is curated and proccessed.
Documentation (Top)
- All available supporting documentation is being scanned and will be made available for review on this site. New specimens labels are being prepared (October 2005) to augment exisitng labels and will refer researchers to the auxillary information.
Description of Collection (Top)
- Located in the Crustacea collection room. Collection sorted by species has now been incorporated into the general Crustacea collection.
Collection Inventory (Top)
- There are 109, 16 oz. squat jars each containing approximately 20-150 1/4 dram shell vials of crustaceans identified to the level of species.

Date 4: Immediate short-term (less than 5 years) storage container replacement needed. Present containers are inadequate. Curate in the short-term with plastic buckets, whirltop bags, or similar. 3: Specimens contained in museum-grade long-term (greater than 5 years) storage containers. Jars need new closures (e.g. replace Bakelite and metal lids). 2: Transfer to museum-grade long-term storage containers. Replace or transfer to new jars and glass vials, replace cotton and closures. 1: Containers are museum-grade and meet highest curation standards. 11/30/2005 0% 0% 0% 100% 08/24/2005 100% 0% 0% 0% Label Condition (Top)
